SALES NEWS: Exeter and East Devon homes increase just over 6% in a year
The average home in Exeter now costs 6.2 per cent more than a year ago, while in East Devon the annual increase has averaged 6.4 per cent. The figures, released in the past few days by the Land Registry, apply to prices at the start of September.
At that time the typical Exeter home, which includes Topsham, cost £239,808 and in East Devon, including areas like Lympstone and Ebford, the average price was £265,823.
The Land Registry is widely regarded as the most authoritative source of house prices as it handles only completed sales at the prices the properties ‘went for’ – other indices, by contrast, are based on mortgages or asking prices.
However, as always, averages mask many variations: some villages, neighbourhoods and streets are more popular than others and every house is at least a little different from the one next door. Always check with an estate agent in the area for latest market information.
