LETTINGS: Local fire service to provide landlords with alarms
Landlords will be required by law to install working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties from October in a move which, across England as a whole, will help prevent up to 36 deaths and 1,375 injuries annually.
Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is one of 46 brigades agreeing to provide free alarms over the spring and summer, with grant funding from government.
Official data shows that people are at least four times more likely to die in a fire in the home if there’s no working smoke alarm.
Letting agents’ and landlords’ groups are to be contacted over the summer with details of when the alarms will be made available.
